It's All in the Definition...

Some folks tend to define things in their own way depending on who they're dealing with. I've heard it said that how you view certain things depends on your definition. You know, let's just get this straight. Certain words mean the same no matter how they're used.

So, just to get it clear, let me define a few words that have been in my mind lately - these are long standing definitions that you can't change to suit your own purpose. Isn't that manipulation?

SLANDER - To defame; to injure by maliciously uttering a false report respecting one; to tarnish or impair the reputation of one by false tales, maliciously told or propagated.

I love this next one - yay, Wiki!

INTEGRITY - consistency of actions, values, methods, measures, principles, expectations, and outcomes. In ethics, integrity is regarded as the honesty and truthfulness or accuracy of one's actions.

It can be regarded as the opposite of hypocrisy in that it regards internal consistency as a virtue, and suggests that parties holding apparently conflicting values should account for the discrepancy or alter their beliefs.

it is the inner sense of "wholeness" deriving from qualities such as honesty and consistency of character. As such, one may judge that others "have integrity" to the extent that they act according to the values, beliefs and principles they claim to hold.

I want to live my life as one with integrity - how else can I honor my Master?

VIRTUE - Behavior showing high moral standards; a quality considered morally good or desirable in a person.

These next ones all fit together in my mind...

HUMILITY - not proud or haughty; not arrogant or assertive. reflecting, expressing, or offered in a spirit of deference or submission (a humble apology); insignificant, unpretentious, modest unassuming, down-to-earth.

HONESTY - fairness and straightforwardness of conduct; adherence to the facts.

MERCIFUL - compassionate treatment of those in distress; compassion or forbearance shown to one who is subject to one's power or an offender.

COMPASSIONATE - sympathetic consciousness of others' distress together with a desire to alleviate it.

GENTLENESS - free from harshness, sternness, or violence.

KINDNESS - the quality of being friendly, generous, and considerate.

Anything else that needs defining?

Thank you, my friend. It would seem that some have forgotten these most important definitions. A little clarity goes a long way, in my view.

But hey, what do I know?

Thanks, Lisa. We can all stand to be reminded of these definitions, not just to take some man's word for it.
