Checkin' In

I'm sitting here in a little library in Kamiah, Idaho thinking about our trip so far. We traveled across Washington yesterday experiencing lots of rain in the Western part of the state moving into sunshine the rest of the way. Our day of travel was good - nothing major to report - but here are a few things I noticed along the way:

- the water level in the lake just east of Snoqualmie hasn't been that high in maybe 20 years!
- old barns
- small towns
- sneezing
- corny humor
- miles and miles of quiet
- long waits
- driving advice
- wind, wind, and more wind
- dams on the Columbia
- giant American white pelicans
- magpies flitting across the road
- snow in hills that are usually bare this time of year
- great coffee place in Walla Walla - 'Hot Mama Espresso' - gotta take Liz there!
- fields of growing grain
- roads winding up and down through the fields and along rivers
- high cliffs along the Snake
- our favorite Taco Time in Clarkston - good salads and a gift of crustos!
- small town hotel - 'the streets roll up at 9!'
- Mom's smile of pleasure as we walk in her door
- talking till midnight
- a treat at the bakery (not as good as usual)
- wildflowers along the road
- missing my usual travel companion!

Fun read. Are you going to tell your mom that you made friends with a mole that you met while on an adventure? ;-)
